The A123 project was undertaken for eMagine as part of site design project they were working on. The client needed an interactive component for use on the home page of the new site that could display multiple panels/pages of animated content using either automated playback or optional manual user navigation. Implementation of this project was done so that animation was fast and maintained high frame rates while video playback was smooth and synchronized with the animated content.
Key requirements for this project included the ability to synchronize playback of embedded video within page elements, use of non-keyframed animation elements (particles), page-level control of animation timing and looping, and a modular approach that enabled easy maintenance of message content moving forward. The project was delivered on time and within budget along with full documentation.
Technical information
The A123 interactive homepage animation was implemented using Adobe Flash and Actionscript 3. Dynamic particle effects animation was created using the Flint particle system and Actionscript. Support for embedding and controlling videos was handled using the video playback and control APIs with synchronization being done using event handlers. Page-level parameters were provided to allow runtime configuration of playback parameters such as page delay and looping mode.
