The Simparel animation project was done under contract for eMagine as part of site design project they were working on. The new design called for the homepage to have a prominent content slider that featured an animated process illustration along with multiple pages of images and content that could be played back automatically or with user interaction. Configurable content links could be assigned to enable navigation to content deeper in the site.

Key requirements for this project included page-level control of animation timing and looping, and a modular approach that enabled easy maintenance of message content moving forward. The project was delivered on time and within budget along with full documentation.

Technical information

The Simparel interactive homepage animation project was implemented using Adobe Flash and Actionscript 3. Animation of the main process illustration was done using code-level tweening and keyframe control. Playback control and content linking was implemented using custom Actionscript classes. Page-level parameters were provided to control run-time playback of animation parameters such as looping, pause-on-interaction, auto-rewind, slide interval, and transition times. Page-level control was also provided for content links to enable integration with the content management system (CMS).
